19. Main Task: Unmanipulated Photos

Front Cover

This is the photograph I have chosen, so I can use it for the front cover of my music magazine. i feel the character is suitable and his age is also in order to appeal to the targeted audience i have used a pair of head phones as costume to link to the music foundation and the RnB genre.

Double page Spread:
I chose this image to use as my double page spread because i think it has a very cheeky and attractive look, especially in terms of attracting the targeted audience i thought this image would be suitable. i also wanted the front page image and main story to cohere with that of my double page spread, hence the use of an almost identical image.

 Main Contents Image:
These are the three main images i have chosen amongst others. i decided to use the caucasion female as a new addition to stop the magazine from being to repepetive and boring so i brought in another featured story about her making that image the main focus on the contents page. However i did use a picture of the male in the corner of the contents page just to emphasise again on the importance of the article associated with him.

23. Main Task: Different Stages of Music Magazine.

When i had finished my front cover i showed it to my teacher, however he found that it was to bland so he told me to edit it and more colour and make it stand out more

This is the first outcome

This is the edited edition, my teacher preffered this alot more.

The following lesson i drafted up a template of my double page spread

I continued working on it in my next lesson and this was the finishing outcome

However after talking to some peers i was informed that it needed more colour and i needed to add more to the page after i had been told this i made a few changes and this was the final outcome

When making my contents page i went through great difficulty selecting a style and placing things in the write place, it took me a few lessons to finish it. my teacher showed us how to use guidlines in order for our text and images to be aligned properly, This made a significant difference and helped dramatically.

12. Main Task: Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

Denotation: A double page spread magazine page,it has a man looking throwing his head down holding a microphone whilst there are other images of the guys playing musical instruments
Connotation: they are all musicians and likely to be in a band together

Mise en sence

- Lighting: The lighting is rather obscure in this picture as it is a black and white image; however there is light shed on each artist from an angle possibly to highlight importance and significance.

- Costume: the costume of the man in the more dominant image is casual and modern, a top a denim jacket and a pair of jeans, plus floppy longish hair to enforce that rockstar/musician stereotyped image. The other characters are dressed similarly t-shirts and jeans.

- Props: The props in the image enforce the rockstar/musician image. The use of microphones recording equipment and guitar hints that this article is covering a musical element

- Setting: in the main image it isn’t very obvious but it seems as if the man is standing on stage and it the bottom right images 1st and 2nd it can be assumed that they are in the studio due to the use of equipment

- Non-verbal communication: The nvc displayed in this image shows confidence in whatever talent they all possess you have the dominant image staged in a very rock like manner as if he just laid down a really good vocal. You also have another image of a man with his mouth wide open over the mic, showing confidence and great ability, the image of the three guys conveys cooperation with one another and the male holding the guitar displays confidence in what he is doing.

Magazine conventions

-Heading: ‘The were being the best Mcr’ Heading is very bold, it suits the type of genre of this music magazine it gives the audience a clear understanding on what type of genre it is. The way the font is used is effective it is big and stands out, it gives the audience the feel of music, hard heavy music portrayed in the layout and size of the masthead.

- Dateline: here there is no dateline this may be because the dateline has previously been stated on the front cover

- Main image: The main image on this double page spread is an image of band members of my chemical romance. Main image is of the lead singer. It takes up a large proportion of the page to signify importance and dominance.

4. Preliminary Task: Front Cover Conventions Diagram

2.Induction: Movie Poster Textual Analysis (The Avengers)

Denotation-a collage of superhero images and a sinister looking man at the top

Connotation-all these superheroes have a mission and they may be working together in order to achieve the objective. The sinister looking man at the top is the leader of them all hence his position significantly placed at the top.

Mise en scene

Lighting-The lighting in this poster consists of high and low-key lighting. The background is very dark this may be in order to portray darkness looming over the city, whereby the characters are highlighted possibly displaying their importance and roles in this movie.

Props-there are a few different props in relation to each character, this maybe each superheroes power, they may also be a well-known feature of the character. Each prop listed; gun, hammer, bow and arrows and shield are all forms of defence and attack. This connotes a large proportion of the film will include fighting and defence.

Costume- each character has his own significant costume, for example the American costume followed by the American shield, this may signify a fighting figure for America hence the location in the background. The other characters also have costumes which is common in action movies as each superhero has their own identity which is acknowledged through costume.

Setting- the setting is in front of America (New York) the superheroes placed in front of New York portrays protection as if these characters are the protectors of America. It is possible to assume that the majority or entire film will take place in the city of New York.

Non Verbal Communication- the NVC displays courage and boldness each character displays strength and lack of fear through facial structure and body language; they are all poised and ready to fight.

Anchor-I think the font suites the film genre as it is a bold which emulates what the characters are trying to portray it is also associated with superhero comics which it can be seen in. I think the size is suitable it isn’t overwhelming nor does it take importance from the main image.

1. Induction: Re-Creation of a Movie Magazine Front Cover

I chose to manipulate this magazine front cover however I used a different image

This is the image I chose for the new manipulated front cover

This is my version of the magazine front cover, I used the image above and manipulated the magazine cover, I found it easier to manipulate the magazine cover because I used Photoshop before in GCSE Media. The only part I struggled on was when I had to select the similar fonts as I had to search as hard as possible to find something very similar to the real thing especially with the masthead. Also because the image was very different from the original I found it hard to position the texts, bubbles and images Overall I found this task okay.
