This mood board has all the things that appeal to my target audience. I know these things will appeal to my target audience because during my planning and research stage I had a lot of research and information about my target audience such as the ways they socialise and what is within their genre/culture.And I found that they mostly socialise through Facebook and BBM, but most of them would own social networking sites suchs as Twitter, Tumblr & YouTube.

I also found that my target audience love wearing brands such as Vans, Converse, Nike and Addidas these are their main brands, wearing brands within their friends is the most important thing to them as they like looking good. Most people within the hip-hop/rnb dance genre would wear snap-backs (cap) boys would usually wear this prop.Most of the boys own a psp, xbox or playstation, whereas nearly all of the girls and boys would own a Blackberry or an Iphone.I choose to use the colour scheme red and black as I think its the best colour that suits this genre.his colour also appeals to both girls and boys so it would attract both genders.

My magazine profile

My magazine reader:  rachel, 18, enjoys music a lot is always up to date with the latest R n B music; album releases launch parties and more. This has an impact on all areas of her life as she associates herself with people of likely hobbies and likes for e.g. love of make up, fashion, music and money. You can tell by her characteristics and hobbies that she is highly influenced by people in the media, music artists, and video girls. She is always at the bigger concerts for e.g. drake, trey songz and J Cole, her iPod and phone  is completely filled with R n B. Keisha is well educated and is currently a student  studying  media in university she is  very physically conscious about her looks she aims to look good at all times.

My magazine will be an R n B theme it will concentrate on informing the audience on the latest music out the biggest parties and the more popular concerts. It will also focus on fashion in the media for e.g. what’s hot and what’s not, informing readers on what the latest fashion is so they are always up to date. There will also be up to date profiles on the more influential and highly rated stars for e.g. Beyonce, Jay Z, Rhianna, and Drake. This profile will include the fashion sense of the artist there most recent activities and much more in order to keep the reader posted. It will have the latest gossip that circulates the music industry. The magazine will also include other major topics that support youth or are a major issue in the lives of young people.

Here is evidence on a questionaireI did over BBM and whatsapp in order to find out what it is people wanted to see on a music magazine, i can now input the ideas towards my magazine.

From this research I found out what my target audience would like to see on a music magazine, with this information I am now have a brief idea of what my music magazine will include however I have made my own judgement concerning the colour schemes and I have chosen red and black although they are heavy and dark colours I am going to manipulate lighting and add an extra neutral font colour in order to adjust it to appeal to my target audience. My music magazine will also include lots of images, interviews and gossip columns regarding A the list celebrities who are the main focus in the media right now.  I am currently in the process of deciding what the magazine will be called.

My magazine plan

• In my magazine i will have images of friends from college and outside college, i will have a male and a female model so that i have a choice.
• I will take my pictures before the end of the year
• My props will be headphones or a hat for a male and for female a phone or a fashion accessory.

·          It is laid out in columns to highlight the different genres of music featured in this magazine. It is laid out almost like a chart to reinforce the type of magazine it is.

Front Cover textual analysis 3

Denotation

The magazine cover consists of coloured photography of a woman looking directly at the camera. It is a medium long shot showing her arms legs and head. She is sitting on a chair with her legs open, almost all her legs are visible within the shot. The background isn’t clear but we mainly see the head of the chair and what maybe another chair right next to it. Behind the woman is the blender masthead and in front of her are six cover lines in light blue, white, and yellow the barcode is on the bottom left and is visible.

Masthead

Blender’s masthead is written boldly in yellow with a faint shadow in the background of each letter. The font is Arial and each letter stands separately from the other, there is also a slight crack in the mast head which is straight this outlines the unique significance of this magazine, almost like its newest trade mark as research shows that they tend to change there masthead design shape and size according to the issue.

Character

The cover photograph is of the successful artist singer “Mariah carey”

Composition-she is posed in a provocative manner bearing all in the image. Her pose is very sexual and open. Her naughty night wear along with her pose and body language portrays her in a very sexy way.

Costume-there is a lack of clothing in this image, she is wearing what looks like a play suit all in one; it is very sexy and revealing. The black and pink supports the sexy image she is trying to portray as these colours is often used to for this. Her hair is worn down in order to tone down the sexy look.

NVC-Her non verbal communication displays her as very attractive, her mouth is slightly opened, she has natural lip wear and white teeth giving her a very subtle look around the face

Lighting-the lighting is rather high it is enhanced on areas such as her legs and face to highlight the main focuses on her body.

Setting- there is no clear setting but it is assumable that he is outside due to the white background.

Cover-lines

The main cover line associated with the celebrity is a big bold yellow writing of her name which is placed in the bottom right of the magazine below that is a little remark saying ‘and oh yeah she can sing too’ with sing underlined. The issue discusses Mariah’s life and up coming fame; at 18 she was spotted by Sony Music mogul Tommy Mottola. In 2001, shortly before the release of her movie ‘Glitter’, she had a very public breakdown, on MTV before checking herself into rehab, and many more different scenarios in the life of Mariah carey. The phrase and she sings too is to highlight and emphasize her many talents. She also features on this magazine to promote her new single. We then have a series of four different coverlines flushed left and right of the artist; discussing different aspects of the music industry for e.g.’ the 43 most unnecessary artists ever’ there is a rather harsh tone in the majority of the cover lines, rather insulting in some aspects but regardless it draws the audience in therefore serving its purpose.

Target audience

The likely target audience would be young adults aged 18 -26 male and female. They would love the latest gossip on stars and also love the trash talk about stars. They would have a wide knowledge stream on other genres. They are likely to be educated and have an interest in R n B.

Denotation

The magazine cover consists of a coloured photograph of a man the colour is mostly green possibly reflecting the image if money further representing wealth affluence etc… the photograph is of a man looking down as he lights his cigar with burning dollars to further represent money he is also wearing a rather large diamond ring and a diamond encrusted watch. The background is a plain white image with dollars falling down. The photographed man has his name written in green on the left hand side in bold in order to emphasize on the main issue of the magazine on this occasion.

Masthead

The source masthead is very distinctive it is green and white on this occasion but varies every issue, it has a white outline on the letters and the ‘the’ is rotated 90 degrees anti clockwise placed to rest on the word ‘source’ whilst in the ‘O’ of the source there is an image of a hand wrapped around the microphone.  The magazine was named the source as back in 1988 the magazine featured cover stories on the crack/cocaine epidemic, police brutality, and New York's investigations of high-profile emcees. The magazine also included many notable features, including the famous Unsigned Hype column. It was the people’s source of information music and politics included in one.

Character

The cover photograph is of the successful artist rapper “Busta Rhymes”

Composition-he is posed in a very comfortable manner as if he knows that he is ‘boss’ his body language shows confidence and his clothing accessories and  jewelry shows wealth.

Costume-he is dressed in a green jacket, white shirt which is typical attire for rappers, a green and white scarf, sunglasses, a diamond ring, watch and a diamond earring. The green represents money whilst the white may represent purity and wealth possibly trying to represent pure legit money.

NVC-His non verbal communication displays him in a much laid back and comfortable manner as if he is now relaxing well with his hard earned money.

Lighting-the lighting is rather high plus the white in the background it has an almost pure shine effect also a daytime lighting effect.

Setting- there is no clear setting but it is assumable that he is outside due to the white background.

Cover-lines

The main cover-line that relates to his photograph is “Busta Rhymes” this is making a reference to his position in the media and his influence to the green issue at this major time for the magazine. The green issue is initially all about saving the earth and re using  the old “In this new world we’re living in, where the environment is suffering and our fears continue to rise about the potential collapse of the global economy, we’ve all got green on our minds. Money, green energy, the marijuana debate–all are subjects that we are constantly talking about in our inner circles these days. We thought, “what better than to take it to the streets and open up this ‘green’ dialogue” this is quoted from the source analysis by Busta rhymes. Bust rhymes features in this magazine in order to influence his fans to go green and follow the new movement. The lack of cover lines is in order to make the green issue the main focus of the magazine also in order to not draw away the reader from the main purpose of this new movement.

Target audience

Considering all these points I, the likely target audience is male and females aged 18-26. They would have a good knowledge of music in politics and be aware of what is happening to current artist or artists in the making. Also they would have a strong interest in hip pop and R n B. they would be educated or currently in education and have an interest in American political issues concerning youth or artists.

Denotation

The magazine cover displays a coloured photograph of a man looking directly at the camera. It is a mid shot showing from his waist up; arms chest and head. He is stood in front of dark blue tiles covering the whole of the magazine and his skin is rather wet, this may be in order to give a sexy wet bathroom feel to the audience maybe in order to portray a scene from a music video or to highlight the sex God image that this character portrays. Behind the man’s head is the capitalised Vibe mast head. In front of the man are 6 stories in red  and white flushed left and right of his body. We then have the name of the man in large white writing placed on the right of him and the name of another artist placed in white medium sized writing on his top left. The red writing in each of the story names signifies the important factor in the story  the white bits are in smaller writing and the use of the white is rather general and have no link to the stars. The website is place on the bottom left in red and white capitalised writing following the colour trend; the dot is an image of a target bored. Bellow this is the barcode and on the opposite side is the upcoming magazine featuring the man whose name has been place on the left side of the man in the image.

Masthead

The word vibe is displayed in a straight forward manner, no fancy writing or excess material just capitalised large red writing, the font used is and connotes boldness and importance possible portraying a sense of music being a great importance in the life of R n B lovers. The word vibe derives from the word vibration and is an abbreviation; it is known to mean feeling for e.g. I’m feeling a good vibe from these people. In this case it would be used for music fans as the “vibe” of the music or that the music is giving me.

Character

The cover photograph is of a well known American singer ‘Trey songz’

Composition-he is posed in a very masculine “I want to rock your bed” kind of way his pose body language and lack of clothing is very sexually suggestive and provocative.

Costume- his lack of clothing shows of his well toned muscled figure, we can see that he is wearing Calvin Klein boxers very low almost exposing his private area again portraying his well know sex God image. The lack of costume was specifically chosen to appeal to it’s target audience, which are most likely to be women, a secondary audience would be gay men.

NVC- His non verbal communication is very sexy. He is tensed showing of his best assets and his eyes are staring down the audience in a very sexy calling manner. The water dripping down his skin shows of his toned assets.

Lighting-the lighting is quite low but high enough to glisten on the assets that are deliberately trying to attract the audience

Setting-the setting is not clear but the dark blue tiles could be assumed as bathroom scenery hence the water.

Cover-lines:

The main cover-line that relates to his photograph is “Trey songz-the hardest in R n B” this is making a reference to his music as trey songz has been number one in many different charts  for a period of 3 months and his last two albums ready and trey day have been  the main issue of discussion  plus his tour ‘OMG’ which has been all over the TV and is still going on. “Trey Day is here! Voted the top album of 2009 by VIBE Magazine (Ready), the hardest dude in R&B covers the publication’s April/May 2010 issue. Jeezy covers the other. It’s yet another accomplishment in a banner year for Songz. “I wanted to push the sex envelope with Trey’s shoot visually,” says VIBE editor in chief Jermaine Hall. “We were able to come up with shots that are equally entertaining for men and women.” The issue hit stands nationwide April 13” not only does the magazine focus on music but also on hard hitting topics such as the disaster in Haiti and fashion “4 ways to rock a suit”.

Target audience

Considering all of these points the likely target audience would be females aged 18-26 the secondary audience would be men hence the cover line ‘4 ways to rock a suit’. They are likely to have knowledge on the latest R n B music in the industry, issues of the world that have been discussed regularly by stars e.g. Haiti. They may be well educated or still in education and have a general interest in all R n B music.

My College Magazine

Introduction

Hi my name is Jade Odusote and this is my blog. I am student at Christ the king college in my first year and I am studing AS Media, AS English Language, AS Politics and AS Economics. This week in AS Media I was asked to create a project which will be to produce a music magazine of a front cover, contents page and a double page spread. My magazine will be focusing on one type of genre which will be RNB, I choose this genre because I like listening to alot of rnb. In my magazine I will have a housestyle which suits the audience and to have the main housestyle carried on the other pages I will be using my Blog to display all my bits of coursework showing my gradual process leading up towards the finish of my music magazine. This consists of my jouney as a first time photoshop user and shows how i gradually develop my skills and build my confidence it also shows my research into music magazine conventions and target audience.
